About Shelly Wierzba

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in a very creative family.  My mom was a widely known oil painter, but I chose the scientific field as a vocation.  After an early retirement, I picked up a paint brush and found my true passion. Mom had given me an artistic sense for design, and after many workshops and mentors, my work started selling and I began receiving awards.  I absolutely love everything about the process of building a work of art…..except the mosquitos when painting outdoors.

My journey of artistic expression has made me grow in appreciation of life and the human spirit. When I’m painting on location, in ‘plein air’, my goal is to express what I feel about the scene and have you feel it also.  My style is modern impressionism.  I try to avoid too much detail so that you have room to engage your imagination and feelings.

The majority of my recent work is with the oil medium.  I’ve used watercolor for many years and I am a juried member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies; and an associate member of the American Impressionist Society.  I’m also an active member of the Plein Air Painters of Oregon.  I am fortunate to have exhibited throughout Oregon in solo and group shows and have work that hangs in private and corporate collections across the United States.   I’m currently represented by the Red Chair Gallery in Bend, Oregon.  You can visit the Red Chair on line by using the link on the left menu.

Please enjoy my website and I hope my paintings nourish your spirit.
